Deesign Partnership Ltd, designers and manufacturers of the original micro-digger, was founded in 1985 when partners Roger and Christine Dee returned to the UK after spending 3 years designing, manufacturing and marketing products in America for the construction industry.
They were joined by Christine's son, Terry Rowlands during this time and within 3 years, the Partnership won their first ever BBC Design Awards Competition in 1988, and the British Design Award for their expertise in design, featuring the very first micro digger now known as Toe-Hoe, and various other small construction and earth-moving equipment.
Despite Roger's health, he was not ready to retire yet so he and Terry designed a hydraulic tipping system for the first micro dumper introduced into the UK by Honda. The Honda HP400 powered carrier was sold through the existing dealer network and the concept of micro dumpers was then recognised in the industry for hire along-side micro/mini diggers upto about 1.5 tonnes.
We soon realised there was a need for a lighter, smoother, faster and more cost effective micro-dumper than was available in the market place, hence the first motorised wheelbarrow (Bizzy) was developed by Terry in 1986. The first machine had only two front drive wheels and had to be supported by the operator. Although it worked quite well it was certainly not as user friendly as the current machine.
Some of these early models are still in use today due to the excellent quality of manufacture, which has become synonymous with mucktruck. Mucktruck continues to use the name Bizzy and is launching a new updated version during the last quarter of 2009.
Since 1993 the muck-truck® has evolved to become the worlds most popular pedestrian micro-dumper.
